What is Intrinsic Safety? (I.S.)

For cost & mechanical reasons, fire detectors are made intrinsically safe rather than flameproof. Intrinsically safe equipment operates at such low power and with such small amounts of stored energy that it is incapable of causing ignition.

Apollo offers a Conventional I.S range – Orbis I.S & an addressable solution.

XP95 I.S. Products:

XP95 I.S. Optical Smoke Detector

55000-640APO

The XP95 I.S. Optical Smoke Detector uses the light scatter principle to quickly and effectively detect a range of slow burning and smouldering fires.

  • Reliable fire detection in areas with a wide temperature range from -20°C to +60°C
  • Ideal for escape routes
  • Unaffected by wind and atmospheric pressure
  • Insect resistant screen

XP95 I.S. Heat Detector (A2S)

55000-440APO

The XP95 I.S. Heat Detector is distinguishable from XP95 I.S. smoke detectors by its low air-flow resistance case which allows good contact between the sensing thermistor and the surrounding air.

XP95 I.S. Manual Call Point

55100-940APO

The Manual Call Point is used to manually initiate an alarm signal on the fire detection system. The Manual Call Point is suitable for use in areas where explosive atmospheres are, or may be, present.

  • Suitable for intrinsically safe and weatherproof applications
  • Suitable for use on Zones 2, 1 & 0
  • EN 54-11 Certified
  • Reports an alarm in under 0.2 seconds
  • XP95 & Discovery compatible
  • Not available for the UK market

Orbis I.S. Products:

Orbis I.S. Optical Smoke Detector

ORB-OP-52027-APO

Apollo Fire Detectors | Orbis I.S. Optical Smoke Detector

The Orbis I.S. Optical Smoke Detector works using the light scatter principle and is ideal for applications where slow-burning or smouldering fires are likely.

  • Reduces false alarms
  • Recommended for early warning of fire in most areas
  • Improved sensitivity to black smoke
  • Compensation for slow changes in sensitivity
  • Algorithms for reliability of alarm

Orbis I.S. Heat Detector (CS)

ORB-HT-51155-APO

The Orbis I.S. Heat Detector monitors temperature by using a single thermistor network which provides a voltage output proportional to the external air temperature.

  • Can be used for applications where smoke detectors are unsuitable
  • Ideal for environments that are dirty or smoky under normal conditions
  • Reduced incidences of false alarms
  • Increased reliability of detection

Orbis I.S. Multi-Sensor Detector (Optical/Heat)

ORB-OH-53027-APO

Apollo Fire Detectors | Orbis I.S. Multi-Sensor Detector (Optical/Heat)

The Orbis I.S. Multi-Sensor Detector benefits from the same false alarm technology as the Optical Smoke Detector with the addition of a heat sensing element.

  • Reduces false alarms
  • Sensitive to fast burning, flaming fires
  • Improved sensitivity to black smoke
  • Compensation for slow changes in sensitivity
  • Algorithms for reliability of alarm
