Apollo Strengthens Sustainability Performance with EcoVadis Gold Rating

An improved score of 86/100 and a place in the 98th percentile provide further independent recognition of Apollo’s progress as we expand our sustainability work across People, Planet and Product and help drive positive change throughout the industry.

Apollo Fire Detectors has achieved an EcoVadis Gold Medal in its 2026 sustainability assessment, with an improved overall score of 86/100 and a position in the 98th percentile of companies assessed. The result recognises the continued development of our sustainability management system across Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

Under EcoVadis’ current criteria, a Gold rating recognises companies within the top 5% of organisations assessed during the previous 12 months, and medals are determined by relative percentile performance rather than a fixed score.

Apollo previously achieved Platinum in 2025 with a score of 84/100. Although our 2026 score increased by two points, our percentile moved from the 99th to the 98th percentile, resulting in Gold. This illustrates the continued scrutiny under which sustainable business practices are held by platforms like EcoVadis, and how businesses are therefore rated.

Progress across People, Planet and Product

The EcoVadis result is one part of a much broader and expanding programme of work at Apollo. Our sustainability strategy, Protecting People and the Planet, is built around three connected pillars: People, Planet and Product. These guide how we support our people and communities, reduce our environmental impact, design products and engage with our supply chain as a whole.

The latest 2026 assessment by EcoVadis recorded particularly strong progress in Ethics, which increased from 81 to 88, and Labour & Human Rights, which increased from 80 to 85. Sustainable Procurement remained at 83, while Environment scored 87. EcoVadis also recognised additional policies and sustainability reporting as factors behind Apollo’s improved overall result. Our focus now is on turning that progress into further practical action. Recent developments include:

  • Greater product transparency: Apollo has added three new certified Environmental Product Declarations to its expanding EPD portfolio. These declarations provide independently-verified, comprehensive lifecycle information to help consultants, contractors and specifiers make more informed decisions and better understand whole-life carbon impacts.
  • Circular product and packaging innovation: We have redesigned detector dust covers to use 97% recycled PET, reducing virgin plastic use by 97% while maintaining the required safety and performance standards. The project brought together our engineering, sustainability and supply-chain teams and demonstrates how even small components can deliver meaningful improvements.
  • Better evidence for customers: Our Sustainability Sales Package brings together information on carbon targets, responsible sourcing, product lifecycle assessments and environmental performance, helping customers access evidence that supports their own procurement and sustainability objectives.
  • Responsible operations: Apollo’s UK manufacturing operations use 100% renewable electricity, supported by onsite solar. Progress across our strategy was recognised in 2026 through the Halma Sustainability Award, and Apollo was also named ESG Company of the Year at the Fire & Security Matters Awards 2026.

How can we help move the industry forward?

We recognise that the fire-safety industry cannot address sustainability in isolation. Such progress requires manufacturers, installers, consultants, customers and industry bodies to work together. For us, this is through sharing knowledge, improving environmental information, and preserving product and system performance without compromising on wider sustainability impacts.

Apollo is therefore actively contributing to wider industry collaboration, including the Fire Industry Association’s Sustainability Special Interest Group and Euralarm’s Environment and Sustainability Task Group. These groups bring together manufacturers, service providers and sustainability specialists to develop practical guidance around Environmental Product Declarations, lifecycle assessments, embodied carbon, net-zero pathways, circularity, ESG and social sustainability.

Our ambition is to help build knowledge and capability across the sector – bringing others along on the journey and supporting a fire-safety industry that protects people, property and the planet.

Gold is a strong result and reflects the commitment of colleagues across Apollo, but we also recognise that there is more to do. Sustainability is becoming an even greater focus for our business. Our ambition is to regain Platinum in our next assessment and - more importantly - to continue delivering measurable improvements here whilst helping raise sustainability standards across the sector as a whole

So, what comes next?

We are proud to have achieved EcoVadis Gold and to have improved our overall score. However, we are not complacent. Our review of the assessment has already highlighted an opportunity to strengthen the coverage of forward-looking, time-bound environmental targets, even though EcoVadis confirmed that Apollo continues to meet qualitative objectives across all activated environmental criteria and the recognised policy-formalisation requirements.

EcoVadis Gold is, overall, an important recognition of where we are today. Our focus is now on the next stage of the journey: accelerating improvement, increasing transparency and continuing to protect People and the Planet through safer, more sustainable fire detection.
