Apollo Wins International Green Apple Award for Sustainability
Apollo Fire Detectors has been recognised at the 2026 International Green Apple Environment Awards for its Zero-Landfill and Circular Manufacturing Programme, an initiative that has transformed the company's approach to waste management and resource efficiency across its UK operations.
Selected from more than 700 entries worldwide, Apollo was recognised for a programme designed to eliminate landfill waste, increase recycling rates and embed circular economy principles throughout its manufacturing operations and product development processes.
Rather than focusing solely on waste disposal, Apollo’s approach has centred on preventing waste at source. Through integrating environmental considerations into manufacturing, procurement, product design and facilities management, the business has worked to reduce material consumption, improve material efficiency and maximise opportunities for reuse and recycling.
The results have been significant. Between FY19/20 and FY24/25, Apollo successfully achieved and sustained zero waste to landfill, reducing landfill-bound waste from 9.54 tonnes to zero. During the same period, the company also reduced its total operational waste by more than 26%, demonstrating that environmental improvements can be achieved alongside business growth.
For me, this award is about recognising the people who have made the progress possible. Our Operations and Waste Management teams have put a huge amount of work into continually improving how we manage waste at Apollo. Their willingness to embrace change, find better ways of working and keep pushing us forward is what has made the difference. I’m incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved, and it’s fantastic to see their efforts recognised externally.
This programme forms part of Apollo’s broader sustainability strategy, which combines certified environmental management systems, responsible supplier engagement, renewable energy use and continuous operational improvement. By taking a long-term approach to sustainability, Apollo continues to demonstrate that protecting people from fire and reducing environmental impact can go hand in hand.
